September Reflections II

Rome, Sacred Symbols and the Beauty of Gathering

There are certain places in the world where faith, history, and beauty seem to exist all at once. Rome is one of them.

This September, I had the extraordinary opportunity to travel to Rome with my parents and my husband. The journey felt both deeply personal and spiritually meaningful. Together we explored the Eternal City, walked through centuries of history, and experienced moments that will remain with me long after the trip ended.

A Morning in St. Peter’s Square

One of the most memorable mornings was attending the Wednesday Papal Audience in St. Peter’s Square.

At dawn, thousands of pilgrims began filling the square. People from every corner of the world gathered together, speaking dozens of languages yet united by a shared sense of reverence and anticipation. When the Holy Father entered the square and greeted the crowd, the atmosphere was unlike anything I have experienced before. It was joyful, humbling, and deeply moving.

Standing beneath Bernini’s sweeping colonnade, I was struck by how architecture itself can become a symbol of unity, with arms extended, gathering people from across the world into one shared space.

Sacred Symbols in Rome’s Architecture

Later that day, we wandered through the Vatican Museums, moving slowly through rooms layered with centuries of artistic devotion. Everywhere there were symbols from intricate geometric floors, gilded crosses, to celestial stars and repeating architectural motifs that have carried meaning across generations.

I found myself pausing again and again to study the smallest details:

  • A quatrefoil carved into marble
  • A star pattern embedded in mosaic
  • The quiet harmony of symmetry in sacred design

These are the elements that have always fascinated me and that increasingly inspire the pieces I am creating for Pacem.

The Meaning of Symbolic Jewelry

Jewelry has long been more than adornment. For centuries it has served as a way to carry symbols of faith, love, and protection close to the heart. A small pendant or charm can hold deep meaning, whether given as a gift for a loved one, a religious milestone, a wedding, a birthday, or a moment of personal reflection.

Many of the designs I am creating draw directly from the symbols found throughout Rome and other sacred places:

  • Stars representing guidance and light
  • Cross forms symbolizing devotion and sacrifice
  • Sacred geometry and architectural motifs reflecting harmony and divine order

These are not trends. They are timeless symbols that have endured across centuries and cultures.

These symbols appear not only in churches and historic architecture, but also in the traditions of meaningful jewelry that is passed from generation to generation. The kind of jewelry that becomes an heirloom. The kind that carries a story.

From Rome to Florence: The Beauty of Gathering

Our journey ended with another beautiful moment when we traveled north to Florence, where we reunited with our extended family to celebrate my cousin’s wedding. After days of exploring Rome’s sacred spaces, gathering together for such a joyful family celebration felt especially meaningful.

Moments like weddings, anniversaries, baptisms, confirmations, and other milestones often inspire people to give jewelry that carries lasting significance. A piece chosen not just for beauty, but for what it represents.

Pacem Perspective

This is the spirit behind Pacem. Each design is inspired by sacred symbols, architecture, and patterns that have endured for centuries. Jewelry created to feel timeless. Jewelry meant to be worn every day and treasured for years to come.

Rome reminded me that beauty, meaning, and craftsmanship are deeply connected. And that the smallest symbols can carry the greatest significance.

Pacem is a prayer for peace, translated through metal and light.
I’m so glad you’re here.

With love and symbols,
